Popular video-creation app, Vine, will be discontinued by its parent company Twitter.
Vine is a video-creation app that lets users create 6-second video clips which can be shared on Vine (the social network) itself or to other social media platforms or saved to the device gallery.
An amazing app, in-and-out, it is loved by a LOT of people.
The 6-second limitation actually makes it more fun – providing a sort of challenge to pack in everything within that length!
The news of discontinuing the app was posted by Vine on its Medium page three days ago where they said:
Since 2013, millions of people have turned to Vine to laugh at loops and see creativity unfold. Today, we are sharing the news that in the coming months we’ll be discontinuing the mobile app.
The company has declared that the existing vines will still be available on its website and will be available for download to the users. The app will also be there.
The post by Vine said:
Nothing is happening to the apps, website or your Vines today. We value you, your Vines, and are going to do this the right way. You’ll be able to access and download your Vines. We’ll be keeping the website online because we think it’s important to still be able to watch all the incredible Vines that have been made. You will be notified before we make any changes to the app or website.
One of the major reasons for the service’s discontinuation is probably competition from apps like Snapchat and Instagram which also offer short-video recording capabilities.
Here are some popular funny Vines. 🙂
