Vine to be discontinued by Twitter

Popular video-creation app, Vine, will be discontinued by its parent company Twitter.

Vine is a video-creation app that lets users create 6-second video clips which can be shared on Vine (the social network) itself or to other social media platforms or saved to the device gallery.

An amazing app, in-and-out, it is loved by a LOT of people.

The 6-second limitation actually makes it more fun –  providing a sort of challenge to pack in everything within that length!

The news of discontinuing the app was posted by Vine on its Medium page three days ago where they said:

Since 2013, millions of people have turned to Vine to laugh at loops and see creativity unfold. Today, we are sharing the news that in the coming months we’ll be discontinuing the mobile app.

The company has declared that the existing vines will still be available on its website and will be available for download to the users. The app will also be there.

The post by Vine said:

Nothing is happening to the apps, website or your Vines today. We value you, your Vines, and are going to do this the right way. You’ll be able to access and download your Vines. We’ll be keeping the website online because we think it’s important to still be able to watch all the incredible Vines that have been made. You will be notified before we make any changes to the app or website.

One of the major reasons for the service’s discontinuation is probably competition from apps like Snapchat and Instagram which also offer short-video recording capabilities.

Here are some popular funny Vines. 🙂

Actually, this is the first time I know of this Vine, but really I find it good for videos. Moreover, I used Vimeo and YouTube because of its authencity and famous worldwide. Likewise, video marketing is the best nowadays.

Vine is for capturing short videos, with a time limit of 6 seconds. It’s for sharing on Vine (the social medium) or other social media platforms.
Vimeo and YouTube are posting and sharing services. They are also for full-length videos, with the primary aim being circulation of videos.

There are simply so many apps out there. Here we are now that Vine is being discontinued by Twitter. And I have not even used or even seen Vine ever at all!

    • Subhradeep November 2, 2016 — Post Author

      Of course, there are.
Vine was a really good one. Pity it didn’t get the exposure it should have. Until the discontinuation news, that is. Such irony.

I have not use this app, but I’m sad knowing that Twitter discontinue it.

It’s sad that it got eaten up by the competition. I guess it’s really a competitive arena when it comes to social media.

    • Subhradeep November 2, 2016 — Post Author

Yes.Competition from Snapchat and Instagram. And other Vine-like apps.
Social media and business are all about competition.

oh my gosh! I couldn’t count the times that I caught my brother watching vines and have it on loud speakerphone. I kinda find it annoying and pointless, although I can not deny that it is somewhat entertaining.

Vine was awesome! The 6-seconds limit made it even more fun! 🙂
You got to watch a lot of entertaining stuff, all within 6-seconds!

I still remember my boyfriend sharing this app to me a few years back. I wasn’t enthralled because I don’t fancy the videos being uploaded there. I think Instagram stories are more relevant because Instagram is way more popular.

    • Subhradeep November 2, 2016 — Post Author

      I see.
This is exactly the issue. Since Instagram and Snapchat are more popular, people tend to use them more.
Well, Instagram might show more relevant stories based on its algorithm.
But, Vine was also really good as an app.

I have heard of Vine, but I have not used it. I’m not really a fan of videos because of the space they take up although I recently found IG’s stories fun. Vine should have been good, right? They probably didn’t just market it well or it wasn’t able to communicate to the right group.

    • Subhradeep November 3, 2016 — Post Author

Yes. Exactly. They didn’t give it the exposure it needed.
Vine’s really good. Also, the videos don’t take up much space. 6-seconds, after all.
      🙂

I never got into Vine myself but I love watching popular Viners!

  10. Stargazer November 3, 2016

I like watching vine vids. People are getting more and more creative with their vines!

  11. Shub November 3, 2016

I am not on Twitter much so doesn’t matter for me even if Vine discontinues. But am sure some users will definitely miss it. In the world of technologies, nothing is permanent..

I’ve heard of Vine but I’ve never tried my hand on it. Now, there are just too many video apps. Even Facebook has this Facebook live now. It’s really a big competition out there and no matter how popular one app can get, there’s still a chance that it can discontinue for various reasons, just like how Friendster and Multiply bid adieu.

    • Subhradeep November 3, 2016 — Post Author

Yes. Competition makes it tough for players who don’t have sufficient exposure.
Vine was popular. But Instagram and Snapchat became more popular. :’)

I haven’t heard about this app and I don’t even know how it works. I seldom download application in my phone, especially if I don’t find it useful. Anyway, thank you for sharing about this news, but this made me curious since I haven’t tried it and u can’t give my comment how the app can really work.

Vine was quite popular among the video-sharing community.
The app was mainly for sharing 6-seconds video clips.

      Thanks for comemnting, though! 🙂

First to know vine though and its cool though.
    More apps more confusing

  15. Tiffany Yong November 8, 2016

Didn’t know about this. But I guess the existing videos being available to everyone is a comfort for most people. Feel sorry for those who had created a huge following there!
